FAQs

How do I clean/ maintain my vacuum mounts?

Clean the bottom of the vacuum pad using a soft rag/ cloth and some soapy water.  The most important part to clean is the outer sealing edge.  Take a look for any cuts of nicks in the sealing edge.  nicks or cuts will allow air to leak in and your vacuum cup will not hold its vacuum.  The pump should be removed every now and then and relubed.  To remove the pump you will pull it straight out of the main mount.  while you have it out, wipe out the inside of the cylinder with a paper towel. The black rubber seal at the tip of the plunger should be re-lubed with a thin layer of silicone-based lubricant (you can buy that from us here).

Do you sponsor drivers or events?

Every now and then. Email sales@trackwing.com for details.

How long will my VMS hold?

There’s no set time on our vacuum mounts. It depends in part on the quality of the paint, the condition of the vacuum mount, the forces generated by the wing, and other factors. Clean surfaces and clean vacuum pads are extremely important for maximizing the hold time. In any case, if the vacuum mount begins to lose some vacuum, it will warn you by making the red low vacuum line on the pump visible. Once you see the red low vacuum line, that’s your signal to repump.

Do you sell replacement parts?

We sure do!  We want you to be able to use your VMS forever. Vacuum pads and pumps, along with a selection of supporting parts, can be found here.

Do I need to clean my trunk surface I’m going to attach my VMS to?

Yes, Clean off any surface dirt from the mounting surface before attaching your Trackwing Vacuum mount system. While you’re at it, make sure the sealing edge of the vacuum pad is clean too.

Will the sun damage my Vacuum pad on my VMS?

Our vacuum pads have UV inhibitors built right in, so they’re made to last. However, UV rays eventually break down almost any sort of rubber or plastic, so store your Vacuum mounts out of the sun when not in use.

Can I use my VMS in the rain?

Absolutely.  Rain will not effect them negatively in any way.  If air can't get in, water can't either. interestingly enough they will typically hold better when wet, so the rain is absolutely no problem.

How do you remove a Vacuum mount once it’s attached?

Pull the tab on the top front of the vacuum pad up and towards the center of the vacuum mount. Once the edge of the vacuum pad is lifted, the vacuum seal breaks and you can remove your wing. Have one hand on the wing ready to catch it when the vacuum is released.

How should I store my VMS when I’m not using it?

Store inside on a flat surface.  Or use some utility wall hooks to store it up and out of the way.  Would also make for a cool display.  Mancave!

 cough. cough.

Where is the VMS made?

Our factory (garage machine shop) is in Mckinney Texas.  We wanted to have the utmost control over every aspect of the products we make.  We CNC machine, assemble, and package our products all under one roof. Our products are MADE IN THE USA!

Can I put a VMS on a vinyl wrapped vehicle?

No, the vacuum will lift up the vinyl and air will seep in from the sides.  Your wrap will probably be ruined and your VMS will most certainly lose vacuum.

How do I keep someone from stealing my wing?

People up to bad things are everywhere.  Most of the time no one will assume the wing can easily be taken off, also the tether system will delay them further.  Take it off and store it inside the car to be safe, or park it in a place you can watch over it.

Should I take my VMS off when I’m not using it?

  1. Yes, because someone might steal it.  2. It’s so easy to remove and remount, just take it off when you’re done using it. 3. It’s always nice to let your vacuum pads have a rest and go back to their original concave shape.

Will my VMS damage my car’s finish?

No. But, don’t attach to a freshly-waxed surface until it’s had time to cure, and definitely don’t attach a VMS on vinyl wrapped vehicles.

What if my car has a chipped/ bad paint finish?

irregularities in a bad/ chipped paint surface will let air seep in and will drastically reduce the vacuum holding ability and duration.

Will my Wing fly off my car if I go too fast?

At some point yes it's theoretically possible that the forces generated by the wing would be so high, the VMS would be literally ripped off your car (possibly ripping off your trunk in the process).  In real world use excluding improper install, No your wing will not fly off your car.  In efforts to keep a conservative safety factor we recommend a top speed of 180MPH.  This recommended top speed is formed around the use of the typical wings currently on the market. The tethers are there in the event of a catastrophic complete vacuum loss.
